
Coláistí Chorca Dhuibhne Teo has been in existence in Baile an Fheirtéaraigh, West Kerry, for almost forty years. It is a subsidiary of Comharchumann Forbartha Chorca Dhuibhne the West Kerry Development Co-operative which was established in 1966.
Coláistí Chorca Dhuibhne is a financially stable well managed and successful entity which generates economic activity through the promotion of Irish Language Courses.
Coláistí Chorca Dhuibhne continues to this day to operate profitably the Irish Language Courses for students in the age group of 10 – 18 years and also for Trainee Teachers and Post Graduates Trainee Teachers.
In terms of its ongoing contribution to the wider community, Coláistí Chorca Dhuibhne generates an income of over 2m per annum for the area and when the appropriate multiplier affect on the direct income is applied, it can be said that this income is worth in the region of 4.5m per annum to the area.
The success of the Coláistí Gaeilge is widely acknowledged and this aspect will be expanded through further renovation.
Product Service
- The provision of a range of Irish Language Courses for students in the age group 10 – 18 yrs. including special colleges for Leaving Certificate students. This course is of benefit to students who will sit their Leaving Certificate examination in the following year from the year at which they attend the Irish College. Though all sections of the course will be covered, the emphasis will be on the spoken language, on developing Oral and Communications skills. This will help students with all aspects of their course, but especially the Oral and Aural Irish Language Examination.
Courses for Primary School Students 10 – 13 yrs old
- Over the past number of years a College for Primary School children age 10 years and upwards has been organised in Muiríoch. Special emphasis is placed on suitable afternoon activities and of course the younger the students, the easier it is for them to become fluent in spoken Irish.
- For the past number of years we have also organised a course during the months of June, July and August for students in the 10 – 14 age group in the residential Irish College at Coláiste Íde, near An Daingean.
- Coláistí Chorca Dhuibhne also provides courses in the Irish Language for Trainee Teachers for two weeks over Easter and for three weeks at the end of August beginning of September.
- Coláistí Chorca Dhuibhne organises the whole course, from the time the enquiry is made, the brochure sent out, and all communication with the parents up to the time the course starts. Coláistí Chorca Dhuibhne also arranges for classrooms, classroom furniture etc. and everything that is required to run the course; sports material for the afternoon activities and music equipment for the Ceil&iacu
